0.5.0 Sneak Peek - Saves, Particles, Equipment


Development continues! The upcoming update is primarily focused on improving the game's internal systems and frameworks.

However, it's not all boring internal tech; some major additions have been made to improve gameplay.

SAVES
You won't need to keep the game open to retain your progress. Since the game doesn't have a very long play time, the lack of saving is currently only a minor inconvenience. However, it will be an increasingly annoying problem as more content is added.

If you're like me and hate inefficient file sizes, worry not! Save data is stored in a simple and highly efficient custom format that's only a few hundred bytes long.

PARTICLES
Perhaps the most impressive (and time-consuming...) feature in this update is a completely new particle system, which is also built from scratch. All particle dynamics are calculated in the GPU, which ensures maximum performance. A number of other optimizations should allow these new particles to run on just about any hardware, but that remains untested.

NEW EQUIPMENT SYSTEM
The basic incremental upgrade system has been replaced by stat-based items. Each has its own balance of strengths and weaknesses, which will allow more variety in play styles and tactics.
